The ground breaking Resolution 1325 was adopted in 2000 with an agenda framed on the premise that women and girls experience conflict differently from men and boys. It affirmed that women have an essential role in conflict prevention, peace building and post-conflict reconstruction and that governments are required to ensure women are represented in all levels of decision-making. Join us for this special in conversation with Kamala and Susan as they discuss what the WPS agenda means for women in our region.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kamala Chandrakirana <\/strong>is an Indonesian advocate of human rights, justice and democracy. During the conflict-ridden times of 2003-2009 in Indonesia, she was chairperson of Indonesia\u2019s National Commission on Violence against Women, a unique national mechanism for women\u2019s human rights established by Presidential Decree. Currently, she is an independent expert in the UN Human Rights Council\u2019s Special Procedures mechanism, on the issue of discrimination against women in law and in practice. She is a member of the Asia Pacific Women Law and Development (APWLD), one of the largest network of women\u2019s rights advocates in the region and one of the founders of Musawah, a global movement for equality and justice in the Muslim family.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Susan Harris-Rimmer<\/strong> is an Australian Research Council Future Fellow with Griffith University Law School. She is an expert in women&#8217;s rights and international law, and has a track record in influencing government to adopt progressive policy ideas. She was part of the Think20 process for Australia&#8217;s host year of the Group of 20 Leaders&#8217; Summit 2014, Turkey 2015 and China 2016 and is Australia\u2019s representative to the W20.
