{"id":274,"date":"2014-08-06T04:18:53","date_gmt":"2014-08-06T04:18:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/app.griffith.edu.au\/news\/?p=28864"},"modified":"2016-04-11T01:30:00","modified_gmt":"2016-04-11T01:30:00","slug":"capacity-building-for-vietnamese-government","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/testblogs.griffith.edu.au\/asiainsights\/capacity-building-for-vietnamese-government\/","title":{"rendered":"Capacity building for Vietnamese government"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Griffith University\u2019s leading economics experts are helping shape Vietnam\u2019s rapidly growing economy.<\/p>\n<p>Twenty three Vietnamese government officials from the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) have recently\u00a0returned home with fresh ideas on developing robust planning and investment strategies, after participating in a series\u00a0of workshops, seminars and discussions in Brisbane.<\/p>\n<p>The three week intensive program, conducted by academics from the <a title=\"Griffith Business School\" href=\"http:\/\/www.griffith.edu.au\/business-government\/griffith-business-school\">Griffith Business School<\/a>\u2018s\u00a0<a title=\"Griffith Business School's &lt;a title=\" href=\"http:\/\/www.griffith.edu.au\/business-government\/griffith-business-school\/departments\/department-accounting-finance-economics\">Department of\u00a0Accounting, Finance and Economics<\/a>, provided a rare opportunity for the delegates to engage with a range of\u00a0academics and meet with Queensland government agencies through professional site visits to <a title=\"Queensland Treasury\" href=\"http:\/\/www.treasury.qld.gov.au\/\">Queensland Treasury and Trade<\/a>\u00a0and <a title=\"Trade and Investment Queensland\" href=\"http:\/\/www.tiq.qld.gov.au\/\">Trade and Investment Queensland<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_28906\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-28906\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-28906 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/app.griffith.edu.au\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/michael-powell-with-vietnamese-delegates600.jpg\" alt=\"From left: Professor Tom Nguyen, Program Lead Academic; Professor Michael Powell, Pro Vice Chancellor (Business); Mr Van Cuong Le, Deputy Director General, Finance and Monetary Department (MPI); Associate Professor Jay Bandalarage, Program Lead Academic\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-28906\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">From left: Professor Tom Nguyen, Program Lead Academic; Professor Michael Powell, Pro Vice Chancellor (Business); Mr Van Cuong Le, Deputy Director General, Finance and Monetary Department (MPI); Associate Professor Jay Bandalarage, Program Lead Academic<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The \u201cCapacity Building for Ministry of Planning and Investment, Vietnam\u201d program was funded by the Department\u00a0of Foreign Affairs and Trade\u2019s (DFAT) <a title=\"Australia Awards Fellowship\" href=\"http:\/\/aid.dfat.gov.au\/australia-awards\/pages\/fellowships.aspx\">Australia Awards Fellowships<\/a> and implemented by the <a title=\"International Business Development Unit\" href=\"http:\/\/www.griffith.edu.au\/international\/international-business-development-unit\">International Business\u00a0Development Unit<\/a>\u00a0at Griffith University.<\/p>\n<p>This program was designed to support the priorities of DFAT\u2019s Australian Aid program for Vietnam and the\u00a0Government of Vietnam\u2019s development agenda in two key respects. First, the program will help develop capacity\u00a0within MPI to modernise its institutions and operations in order to strengthen its governance and ability to support\u00a0long-term development goals.
