Having dodged multiple pitfalls, he&#8217;s positioned himself to act as a bridge between the United States and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usnews.com\/topics\/locations\/north_korea\">North Korea<\/a>. His envoy has returned from a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usnews.com\/news\/world\/articles\/2018-03-06\/north-and-south-korea-agree-to-hold-summit-in-april\">successful foray to Pyongyang<\/a>\u00a0and Moon Jae-in is driving things forward.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-body-item ad-in-text-target \">\n<p>True, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usnews.com\/news\/best-countries\/united-states\">United States<\/a>\u00a0has contributed to an inflection point through its pressure campaign. And North Korea helped choose the timing by declaring the &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/international\/archive\/2017\/11\/north-korea-nuclear\/547019\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">completion<\/a>&#8221; of its nuclear force in late November and then by calling for Olympic cooperation in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2017\/12\/31\/asia\/kim-jong-un-new-year-address-nuclear\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kim Jong Un&#8217;s New Year&#8217;s speech<\/a>. But since then, the Moon government has been the one forging a path toward meaningful talks between the key stakeholders.<\/p>\n<p>Moon sent a delegation to Pyongyang this week to explore further peace initiatives on the Korean Peninsula, building on the Olympic d\u00e9tente. Its job, essentially, was to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Draylien\/status\/970505542987784192\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">get the North Koreans to use the word &#8220;denuclearization,&#8221;<\/a>\u00a0and then take that, with whatever qualifiers Pyongyang attached, to sell in Washington.
