{"id":4269,"date":"2018-05-02T08:30:12","date_gmt":"2018-05-01T22:30:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/testblogs.griffith.edu.au\/asiainsights\/?p=4269"},"modified":"2018-05-17T18:05:39","modified_gmt":"2018-05-17T08:05:39","slug":"has-india-blinked","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/testblogs.griffith.edu.au\/asiainsights\/has-india-blinked\/","title":{"rendered":"Has India blinked?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi\u2019s announcement that he plans to visit China for an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/news\/politics-and-nation\/pm-modi-to-visit-china-for-talks-with-president-xi\/articleshow\/63868626.cms\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u2018informal summit\u2019<\/a>\u00a0with President Xi Jinping is part of a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.firstpost.com\/india\/outreach-by-swaraj-and-sitharaman-signals-india-seeks-soft-reset-of-ties-with-china-not-a-factory-reset-4444961.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u2018reset\u2019<\/a>\u00a0strategy vis-\u00e0-vis Beijing that New Delhi has embarked upon in the last few months.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s the culmination of a series of outreach measures and comes on the heels of Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thequint.com\/voices\/opinion\/opinion-india-china-ties-to-get-boost-nirmala-sitharaman-visit-to-beijing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">attendance<\/a>\u00a0at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation\u2019s (SCO) defence ministers\u2019 meeting and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ndtv.com\/india-news\/sushma-swaraj-arrives-in-china-for-bilateral-talks-sco-meeting-1840904\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">presence<\/a>at the corresponding foreign ministers\u2019 event in China this week. Modi\u2019s visit will put the official stamp on the \u2018reset\u2019 and is likely to have\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.firstpost.com\/india\/outreach-by-swaraj-and-sitharaman-signals-india-seeks-soft-reset-of-ties-with-china-not-a-factory-reset-4444961.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">significant implications<\/a>\u00a0for the region.<\/p>\n<p>Notably, its speculated that Modi\u2019s upcoming visit is the result of an\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/indianexpress.com\/article\/india\/all-set-for-reset-pm-modi-and-chinas-xi-jinping-to-hold-informal-meet-this-week-5147817\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">invitation<\/a>\u00a0from Beijing and is even more interesting because he is\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/indianexpress.com\/article\/india\/all-set-for-reset-pm-modi-and-chinas-xi-jinping-to-hold-informal-meet-this-week-5147817\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">already scheduled<\/a>\u00a0to attend the SCO summit in China in June this year.
