Some say it\u2019s immutable, others say hogwash; ironically both sides quote Clausewitz for support. Interestingly,\u00a0Secretary of Defense Mattis, once an \u2018immutable\u2019 defender, has now\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.c4isrnet.com\/intel-geoint\/2018\/02\/17\/ai-makes-mattis-question-fundamental-beliefs-about-war\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">declared<\/a>\u00a0he\u2019s not sure anymore, given recent\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/madsciblog.tradoc.army.mil\/11-artificial-intelligence-ai-trends\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Artificial intelligence (AI)<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0developments.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-5159 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/i2.wp.com\/madsciblog.tradoc.army.mil\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Carl-von-Clausewitz.jpg?resize=168%2C240\" alt=\"\" width=\"187\" height=\"267\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-5160 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/i2.wp.com\/madsciblog.tradoc.army.mil\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Hoplite_fight_from_Athens_Museum.jpg?resize=192%2C144\" alt=\"\" width=\"273\" height=\"204\" \/><\/p>\n<p>At the core of the immutable case is the belief that war has always been violent, chaotic, destructive, and murderous \u2013 and will thus always be so.
