These words, spoken by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a visit to Ahmedabad this week, show clear parallels to a famous\u00a0dialogue<\/a>\u00a0in a recently released Bollywood movie based on the 2016 \u2018surgical strikes\u2019 ordered by the Modi government to eliminate terrorists in Pakistani-occupied Kashmir.<\/p>\n

Modi invoked this emotive language just days after India conducted airstrikes against Pakistan, which led to a\u00a0major skirmish<\/a>\u00a0along the \u2018line of control\u2019 (the de facto border between the two countries in Kashmir). While the details of what exactly happened remain murky, and the question of whether India\u2019s airstrikes were successful is being hotly debated, it\u2019s undeniable that India\u2019s retaliation (framed<\/a>\u00a0as \u2018pre-emptive non-military action\u2019) after the Pulwama terrorist attack has provided a strong impetus to Modi\u2019s Hindu-nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party\u2019s bid for the upcoming Indian election.<\/p>\n
