Since then, the international community has relied on public criticism, unilateral sanctions and a range of measures in the United Nations and International Criminal Court to hold Myanmar\u2019s government and armed forces (known as the Tatmadaw) accountable for their actions.<\/p>\n<p>Myanmar\u2019s political and military leaders have refused to acknowledge the crimes committed in Rakhine State,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2019\/01\/prosecute-myanmar-army-chief-rohingya-genocide-envoy-190125112535665.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">described<\/a>\u00a0by UN officials as ethnic cleansing, if not genocide.
