Article 370 was a hurdle for development of Kashmir \u2026 Article 370 and Article 35A gave only separatism, nepotism and corruption to the people of Jammu and Kashmir \u2026 I assure the people of J&amp;K that things will return to normalcy.\u2019 <\/p><cite> Narendra Modi, 8 August 2019 <\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prime Minister Narendra Modi\u2019s\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.businesstoday.in\/current\/economy-politics\/narendra-modi-address-nation-article-370-future-jk-10-major-points\/story\/371333.html\" target=\"_blank\">speech<\/a>\u00a0to the nation explaining his government\u2019s decision to abrogate Article 370 was addressed not only to the people of Kashmir, but to the international community at large. In one stroke, Modi has attempted to redefine the geostrategic dynamics of South Asia. But it has opened a Pandora\u2019s box, as I discussed in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/testblogs.griffith.edu.au\/asiainsights\/indias-actions-in-kashmir-part-1-how-did-we-get-here\/\">part 1<\/a>\u00a0of this series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\n\nThough the Indian government was able to get the constitutional change through the parliament thanks to its overwhelming majority, the legality of the move&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/india\/abrogation-of-article-370-challenged-in-supreme-court\/articleshow\/70615864.cms\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">has been challenged<\/a>&nbsp;in the supreme court.
