{"id":6908,"date":"2020-02-17T12:30:00","date_gmt":"2020-02-17T02:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/testblogs.griffith.edu.au\/asiainsights\/?p=6908"},"modified":"2023-08-07T11:34:00","modified_gmt":"2023-08-07T01:34:00","slug":"managing-asias-coronavirus-response","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/testblogs.griffith.edu.au\/asiainsights\/managing-asias-coronavirus-response\/","title":{"rendered":"Managing Asia\u2019s coronavirus response"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/testblogs.griffith.edu.au\/asiainsights\/tag\/sara-davies\/\">SARA E DAVIES<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0|<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The novel coronavirus (COVID19) has so far been\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/emergencies\/diseases\/novel-coronavirus-2019\/situation-reports\/\" target=\"_blank\">reported<\/a>\u00a0in 24 countries and territories outside mainland China, where the outbreak was first reported last December.\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.eastasiaforum.org\/2020\/02\/03\/fighting-the-new-coronavirus\/\" target=\"_blank\">Measures<\/a>\u00a0have been taken to contain the spread of the virus but some at the cost of impeding regional connectivity. To better prepare for future outbreaks, it is necessary to build channels of trust, communication and information-sharing in peacetime, and increased investment in equitable health systems to support outbreak containment measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cases have been reported all across Asia.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.channelnewsasia.com\/news\/asia\/wuhan-coronavirus-indonesia-testing-kits-laboratory-12389198\">Indonesia<\/a>, the most populous country of South East Asia, tested a suspected 38 cases that all turned out negative.
