Most of these measures have been largely symbolic, however, and none have had a direct impact on the balance of forces inside the country. The junta has continued its repressive policies, in what has become a nationwide civil war.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Requests by the shadow National Unity Government (NUG) for direct military intervention, under the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/asialink.unimelb.edu.au\/insights\/the-responsibility-to-protect-the-people-of-myanmar\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">UN\u2019s Responsibility to Protect<\/a>&nbsp;principles, have fallen on deaf ears. More recent calls by members of the People\u2019s Defence Force (PDF), for the imposition of a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eastasiaforum.org\/2022\/02\/19\/a-no-fly-zone-wont-fly-in-myanmar\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">no-fly zone<\/a>&nbsp;over Myanmar, have been equally unsuccessful.
