There are no more large regular,\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/lindleyfrench.blogspot.com\/2022\/03\/where-is-russian-army.html\" target=\"_blank\">active forces available elsewhere<\/a>\u00a0in the country to replace its combat losses or to rotate the forces currently fighting as they grow tired.\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/scholar.afit.edu\/cgi\/viewcontent.cgi?article=3649&amp;context=etd\" target=\"_blank\">Studies suggest<\/a>\u00a0soldiers should not spend more than 60 days in combat before being rested,\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jstor.org\/stable\/30036383\" target=\"_blank\">others argue for 45 days<\/a>\u00a0before they are ineffective. Russian forces reach 60 days in late April. With its offensive operations thwarted, losses mounting and\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/news\/8710682\/ukraine-russia-war-stalemate\/\" target=\"_blank\">morale declining<\/a>, time is running out for Russia\u2019s army in Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Russia could quickly agree a peace treaty but seems disinterested in this.&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/International\/ukraines-lead-negotiator-talks-russia-months\/story?id=83626948\" target=\"_blank\">Ukraine\u2019s chief negotiator<\/a>&nbsp;considers Russia believes it can yet win sizeable battlefield victories that allow it to dictate the terms that end the war. To do this, Russia must break the present stalemate and this requires combat escalation.
