This recognition has been adapted to a wide range of settings through various Security Council resolutions. Yet space security has been&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aspistrategist.org.au\/old-inequalities-new-space-women-peace-and-space-security\/\">largely left out<\/a>&nbsp;of these discussions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Conflict in space poses threats that may disproportionately affect women and girls. Indeed, conflict in space would be a \u201cthreat multiplier\u201d to existing gender inequalities, meaning that women have fewer resources to deal with the fallout and may be exposed to greater harm resulting from disruptions to critical satellite technology in already-fragile conflict zones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For instance, the targeted destruction of satellites \u2013 the threat of which was&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2021-11-16\/us-slams-russia-for-irresponsible-missile-test-debris-cloud-\/100622942\">demonstrated<\/a>&nbsp;by Russia\u2019s direct ascent anti-satellite test in 2021\u2014may impact everything from women\u2019s access to telecommunications to finance, navigation, disaster response and education.
