From the UK\u2019s 2018&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/isc.independent.gov.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/CCS207_CCS0718997712-001_ISA_Diversity_and_Inclusion_-in_the_UK_Intelligence_Community_HC1297.pdf\">report<\/a>&nbsp;into Diversity and Inclusion in the UK Intelligence Community to the US\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dni.gov\/index.php\/newsroom\/press-releases\/press-releases-2022\/item\/2331-odni-releases-fiscal-year-2021-intelligence-community-annual-demographic-report\">annual Demographic Reports<\/a>&nbsp;that collect \u2013 and publish \u2013 data on diversity across a staggering 19 different intelligence and national security agencies, we concur with growing evidence&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rand.org\/pubs\/research_reports\/RRA1201-1-v2.html\">advocating for process review<\/a>&nbsp;and analysis across different elements of diversity in intelligence, national security, and security vetting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Intelligence services are at the forefront of identifying and understanding complex and multifaceted threats against the state, but how much do we know about the experiences of those who operate behind the curtain?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/academic.oup.com\/isr\/article\/25\/3\/viad033\/7232093?searchresult=1\">Our new research<\/a>\u00a0published in the International Studies Review comprised a systematic review of what\u2019s known \u2013 and can be known \u2013 about diversity in the intelligence sector. It found that diversity in the sector is a critical tool of emancipation and inclusion for minoritised groups seeking representation in \u2018secret\u2019 intelligence institutions. Diversity is also seen as critical for fulfilling major, and growing, workforce shortages.
