The Griffith Institute for Educational Research (GIER)<\/em><\/span><\/span> is an interdisciplinary coalition of researchers working to ensure that the benefits of <\/span><\/span>educational<\/span><\/span><\/em> and <\/span><\/span>learning<\/em><\/span><\/span> opportunities<\/em>\u2014wherever they take place, whenever they occur\u2014can flow equitably to all members of our society. Focusing on the needs of <\/span><\/span>diverse learners <\/span><\/span>in<\/span><\/span> diverse contexts<\/span><\/span>, our research enables democratic, <\/span>equitable<\/span>, sustainable futures, and <\/span>impacts<\/span> directly on the quality and dignity of peoples\u2019 lives.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"PhotoOur Motivation <\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Education\u2014in all its forms and contexts\u2014is central to personal, social, economic, and political freedom, but the benefits of education do not flow equitably to all people.\u00a0 Variables such as gender, age, geographical location, sexual identity, socio-economic status, <\/span>neurodiversity<\/span>, cultural background, <\/span>race<\/span>, ability, disability, religion, and First Nations\u2019 identities intersect to create patterns of risk or disadvantage that have life long and life wide consequences.\u00a0 These risks cannot <\/span>be overcome<\/span> by good intentions, aspirational <\/span>targets<\/span> or optimistic slogans. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Change requires deliberate, purposeful and research based educational <\/span>action<\/span> that <\/span>make<\/span> explicit the factors that enable or constrain education learning, and then use this research to <\/span>conceptualise<\/span> and sustain genuine change. <\/span>Leading this transformative work is our fundamental purpose.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Institute’s research is framed around the following focus area that address key educational challenges:<\/p>\n
