Put a DOI on it! How to get a DOI for your research report

Did you know that the Library offers a DOI (Digital Object Identifier) minting service through Griffith Research Online (GRO) for eligible research reports written by Griffith-affiliated authors and groups?

What is a DOI?

A DOI is a type of unique, persistent identifier assigned to a digital research output. DOIs offer a range of benefits, including:

  • a stable, permanent link that points to the report in perpetuity. This helps to avoid dead links and link rot, ensuring reliable long-term access.
  • increased visibility of your report through search engines like Google, Google Scholar and Trove
  • making your report simple for others to cite
  • enabling accurate tracking of citations and Altmetrics, allowing you to better assess the use and impact of your report.

What are the eligibility criteria?

For your report to be eligible for the Library’s DOI minting service, it must meet the following criteria:

  • The copyright in the report is owned by Griffith University or the author(s).
  • Griffith has the right to publish and make the full-text version of the report publicly available through GRO (either immediately or after an embargo period).
  • The report does not already have a DOI or ISBN assigned to it.

Ready to request a DOI for your report?

Send your request to the Library through our DOI request form. If you’re unsure about whether your report meets the DOI minting criteria, don’t worry—the Library assesses the eligibility of each request and will get in touch with you if further information is required.
