Tip of the week: Manage your time.
Being a university student can feel like a constant race against time. Juggling classes, assignments and a social life is tough. It’s easy to get overwhelmed and find yourself working on a paper at 3am the day it’s due.
Embrace flexibility and fun
- Schedule fun: Intentionally block out time for hobbies, social events and relaxing.
- Incorporate spontaneity: Leave gaps in your schedule for last-minute plans.
- Reward yourself: Plan small rewards for completing tasks, like a coffee break or watching a show.
Use planning tools effectively
- Use a planner: Use a digital or physical calendar to visualise your commitments.
- Create a realistic schedule: Build in extra time and avoid overly strict, minute-by-minute plans.
- Budget your time: Be realistic about how long tasks will take and schedule accordingly.
Optimise your study habits
- Break down tasks: Divide large assignments into smaller, more manageable chunks.
- Set clear goals: Establish specific, achievable goals for each study session.
- Eliminate distractions: Identify and minimise what distracts you, like social media.
- Take regular breaks: Schedule short breaks to prevent burnout and re-energise.
Prioritise and be kind to yourself
- Prioritise tasks: Use your planner to identify and tackle the most important tasks first.
- Be realistic: Acknowledge that things won’t always go perfectly, and it’s okay to adjust your schedule.
- Prioritise wellbeing: Make sure to prioritise sleep, exercise and breaks to maintain your health.
By using these strategies, you can easily manage your time and succeed at university.
