Tip of the week: Have a plan for exam prep

You wake up, check your calendar and realise your exam is tomorrow. You haven’t opened your notes since week 3. Cue the caffeine-fuelled scramble and a mild existential crisis.

The good news? There’s no better time to start than now. Be kind to yourself, stay calm and make the most of the time you have.

Here are some simple, effective tips to help you get exam-ready:

Set aside dedicated study time

  • Even short, focused sessions add up. Use a timer or planner to stay on track.

Start early when you can—but starting now is great too

  • Planning ahead helps reduce stress and gives you time to absorb material. But if you’re starting late, don’t worry—every bit of focused effort still counts.

Avoid multitasking

  • Focus on one topic at a time. You’ll retain more and stress less.

Use active recall

  • Test yourself regularly instead of just re-reading notes. Flashcards, practice questions or teaching someone else work wonders.

Know the format

  • Check past papers or ask your lecturer what to expect—multiple choice, essays, short answers? Tailor your prep accordingly.

Look after yourself
