Tip of the week: Never forget referencing

We all know that referencing is an important part of academic culture, but it can sometimes feel like an overwhelming and time-consuming task! To make the process easier, we’ve put together some practical tips to help you save time, reduce stress and reference with confidence.

Reference as you go

One of the best ways to stay on top of your referencing is to collect the necessary information as you research. You can then add your in-text citations and compile the reference list as you write, rather than leaving this to the end. Don’t forget to leave time to proofread your reference list before submitting!

Bookmark the referencing guides

You’ll likely be referring to the Library’s referencing guides often during your studies. Make sure you bookmark the guide for your style so it’s always within reach.

Attend a referencing workshop

The Library offers referencing workshops throughout the year to help you understand how referencing works and how to use references effectively in your writing.  Short versions of the Understanding referencing and Using references in your writing workshops are also available to watch online anytime. And if you’re using APA 7, there’s also a self-paced tutorial to introduce you to the basics of the style.
