International Women’s Day<\/a> is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

To celebrate International Women\u2019s Day we\u2019d like to acknowledge some of Griffith University\u2019s high achieving women. \u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Leneen Forde<\/strong><\/p>\r\n

\"Profile<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Our first female Chancellor and our longest serving to date (2000-2015). Leneen Ford was also Queensland’s first female Governor from 1992-1997 and Queenslander of the Year in 1991.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Ann <\/strong>Moyal<\/strong> \u00a0<\/p>\r\n

Our first female senior academic acting as Director of the Centre for Science Policy from 1977-1979. Ann was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 1993 and became an inductee of the Australian Academy of the Humanities in 1997.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Professor Cindy Shannon\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\r\n

Our first Pro Vice Chancellor (Indigenous), Professor Cindy Shannon is a descendent of the Ngugi people and one of Australia\u2019s foremost higher education Indigenous leaders. She has previously held the position of Pro Vice Chancellor (Indigenous Engagement) at the University of Queensland from 2011-2017 and held senior appointments at the Queensland University of Technology and the University of Melbourne and has served on numerous health advisory boards.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
