If you study or have studied at\u00a0<\/span>Griffith<\/span>, you may recognise<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>QTAC<\/span>\u00a0(<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>Queensland Tertiary Admission Centre<\/span>)<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0But\u00a0<\/span>did you know that QTAC exists today because of Griffith University?<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As far back as\u00a0<\/span>1973<\/span><\/b>,\u00a0<\/span>Griffith University had been agitating for the establishment of a central tertiary admissions centre.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

All of Queensland\u2019s tertiary institutions were struggling with the inefficiencies of the existing admissions process.\u00a0<\/span>A<\/span>\u00a0centralised system<\/span>\u00a0would administer admission applications for all Queensland institutions<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0including TAFE (Technical and Further Education) colleges and CAE\u2019s (College<\/span>s<\/span>\u00a0of Advanced Education)<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>and it would make applying for higher education much easier and efficient for aspiring students.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In August\u00a0<\/span>1975<\/span><\/b>,\u00a0<\/span>and after close<\/span>\u00a0collaboration between Griffith University and\u00a0<\/span>the University of Queensland (UQ), QTAC opened. Griffith and UQ<\/span>\u00a0admission applications for the 1976 academic year were the first to be process<\/span>ed<\/span>\u00a0through this centralised system.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In\u00a0<\/span>1976<\/span><\/b>,<\/span>\u00a0QTAC was processing the enrolment applications for all of Queensland\u2019s tertiary institutions<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u2013 there were\u00a0<\/span>13\u00a0<\/span>institutions\u00a0<\/span>at the time<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
