The\u00a0Library\u00a0invites you to join us in\u00a0observing\u00a0<\/span>World Book and Copyright Day<\/span><\/a>\u00a0on\u00a0<\/span>23 April 2021.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The United Nations\u00a0<\/span>Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)<\/span>\u00a0first proclaimed this international day in 1995<\/span>\u00a0to celebrate\u00a0<\/span>books\u00a0<\/span>and their influence<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>in<\/span>\u00a0disseminat<\/span>ing<\/span>\u00a0and promot<\/span>ing<\/span>\u00a0knowledge<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>World Book and Copyright Day\u00a0<\/span>also has symbolic significance in that\u00a0<\/span>several<\/span>\u00a0influential\u00a0<\/span>writers<\/span>\u00a0have died on this date, including William Shakespeare and\u00a0<\/span>Don\u00a0<\/span><\/i>Quixote<\/span><\/i>\u00a0author\u00a0<\/span>Miguel de Cervantes<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to celebrating the creativity and diversity<\/span>\u00a0shared through books, this day<\/span>\u00a0promotes equal and open access to knowledge. Copyright\u00a0<\/span>plays an essential role when it comes to sharing knowledge, particularly in an academic<\/span>\u00a0setting.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>What better way to pay tribute to authors<\/span>\u00a0and creators<\/span>\u00a0than t<\/span>reating their work with<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>fairness?<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
