Privacy Awareness Week 2021 runs from 3 \u2013 9 May, and this year\u2019s campaign is a timely reminder to make privacy a priority and protect personal information. As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect the way we work and\u00a0<\/span>socialise<\/span>, safeguarding your data online is more important than ever.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

If you aren\u2019t protecting your\u00a0<\/span>personal information<\/span><\/a>\u00a0online, you could be sharing things you would rather keep private.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As more of our\u00a0<\/span>work, study and\u00a0<\/span>socialising<\/span>\u00a0is taking place online,\u00a0<\/span>we may share more than we intend to.\u00a0<\/span>P<\/span>ersonal information such as contact details, financial or even sensitive<\/span>\u00a0health<\/span>\u00a0information can be revealed online in ways we may not expect<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Online tracking, sophisticated phishing scams and data breaches are just some of the issues that can have a serious impact on our privacy. In fact, Australians see identity theft<\/span>, fraud, data breaches and security as the biggest privacy risks we face today.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0<\/span>Australian Community Attitudes to Privacy Survey 2020<\/span><\/a>\u00a0revealed that even though most Australians (85%) have a clear understanding of why they should protect personal information, 49% don\u2019t know how to go about it. Our personal information is valuable and worth protecting. But if you\u00a0<\/span>don\u2019t<\/span>\u00a0know how, you are not alone. Many\u00a0<\/span>aren\u2019t<\/span>\u00a0doing enough to safeguard their privacy due to lack of time, knowledge and the perceived difficulty of the process\u2014it\u2019s easier and faster than you think.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
