The day marks the birth of Karl Landsteiner,\u00a0an\u00a0Austrian biologist,\u00a0physician\u00a0and\u00a0immunologist\u00a0who discovered blood types and co-discovered the\u00a0Rh factor\u2014the latter discovery meant the prevention of incompatibility reactions during blood transfusions.
