Today, 27 August 2021, is\u00a0<\/span>Wear It Purple Day<\/span><\/a>! This\u00a0day is an opportunity to show our support for LGBTIQ+ young people and foster environments where they can\u00a0feel safe, empowered and included.\u00a0Founded in 2010, Wear It Purple Day is a global movement\u00a0initiated\u00a0in response to\u00a0the experiences of rainbow young people, encouraging open and honest discussion of\u00a0real-life\u00a0issues\u00a0that continue to affect them daily in our society.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This year\u2019s theme is\u00a0<\/span>Start the Conversation\u2026Keep it Going,\u00a0<\/span><\/i>which focuses on these vital conversations surrounding sexual orientation and gender identity. Just as\u00a0young people are dealing with other people\u2019s\u00a0perceptions and prejudices\u00a0every day, Wear It Purple Day is a reminder that we have\u00a0the\u00a0opportunity\u00a0every day to discuss and consider the issues that our rainbow youth experience. Keeping the conversation going is an essential part of\u00a0providing support to\u00a0LGBTIQ+\u00a0young people and\u00a0fostering\u00a0inclusiveness.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Here at Griffith,\u00a0the comfort and safety of our students and staff\u00a0is paramount. That\u2019s why our Library is a designated Safe Place for the LGBTIQ+ community.
