\u2018If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants\u2019 – Sir Isaac Newton, 1675 <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Few\u00a0people can\u00a0claim to\u00a0possess the mind of a genius like Newton, but even he had the humility to acknowledge that the work done by\u00a0the thinkers and inventors\u00a0that came before him made his own discoveries possible.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This might be a lofty metaphor to apply to referencing in\u00a0a\u00a0university\u00a0assignment,\u00a0but\u00a0one of the foundations of\u00a0<\/span>academic integrity<\/span><\/a>\u00a0is that\u00a0before we can claim an\u00a0original idea, we\u00a0must give credit to the work others have done which made it possible, and never pass off the ideas of other people as our own (otherwise known as plagiarism).\u00a0The most common way of\u00a0maintaining academic integrity\u00a0at university is\u00a0by\u00a0properly\u00a0referencing\u00a0other people\u2019s\u00a0work\u00a0throughout\u00a0your\u00a0own\u00a0essays,\u00a0reports\u00a0and theses.\u00a0Referencing\u00a0correctly\u00a0can\u00a0seem\u00a0difficult, but fortunately the\u00a0Library\u00a0is here to help!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Referencing\u00a0guides<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Depending on the school or discipline you’re studying in, you’ll be required to use a particular referencing style in your work. Griffith Library\u00a0has\u00a0created\u00a0easy-to-use\u00a0guides for\u00a0each of the styles\u00a0used at Griffith University.
