Our Researcher Profile series lets you stay up to date on current research from Griffith. With each profile, the Library interviews a researcher or academic to showcase their area of research. In 2021, we spoke with a\u00a0diverse group of\u00a0Griffith\u00a0experts whose work\u00a0ranges\u00a0from\u00a0human rights to healthcare.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

At the start of the year,\u00a0<\/span>PhD candidate Dale Rowland<\/span><\/a>\u00a0shared how digital interventions such as virtual reality could enable mental health treatment to be delivered remotely\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>Dr\u00a0Linlin\u00a0Ma<\/span><\/a>\u00a0explained her research\u00a0on various ion channels and related diseases, such as Parkinson\u2019s disease.\u00a0<\/span>Prof Susan Harris\u00a0Rimmer<\/span><\/a>\u00a0spoke with us about gender equality for International Women\u2019s Day, while\u00a0<\/span>Prof Stuart Bunn<\/span><\/a>\u00a0encouraged us all to reduce our water footprint.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Early detection was the\u00a0watchword when we spoke with\u00a0<\/span>Dr Samuel\u00a0Thambar<\/span><\/a>\u00a0during Oral Cancer Awareness Month.\u00a0<\/span>Dr Danielle\u00a0Stanisic<\/span><\/a>\u00a0discussed her work preventing\u2014and hopefully one day eliminating\u2014malaria.\u00a0<\/span>Dr Jean Spinks<\/span><\/a>\u00a0talked with us about her research in health system\u00a0change and\u00a0<\/span>Dr Ed Morgan<\/span><\/a>\u00a0enlightened us about the importance of\u00a0ecosystem-based climate change adaption and forest protection.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We took a closer look at the\u00a0inner workings of the\u00a0human body with\u00a0<\/span>Dr Amanda Cox<\/span><\/a>\u2019s immunology research\u00a0and\u00a0the \u2018Aussie Gut\u2019 project with\u00a0<\/span>Dr Nic West<\/span><\/a>. For National Diabetes Week,\u00a0<\/span>Dr Brooke Coombes<\/span><\/a>\u00a0spoke with us about the impact of chronic pain on people with diabetes.\u00a0<\/span>Prof Kevin Morris<\/span><\/a>\u00a0explained how RNA\u00a0(<\/span>Ribonucleic Acid)<\/span>\u00a0is being used to develop direct-acting antiviral therapies.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Towards the end of 2021,\u00a0our focus turned to\u00a0social issues.\u00a0<\/span>Prof Ciaran\u00a0O\u2019Faircheallaigh<\/span><\/a>\u00a0provided insight\u00a0into his\u00a0impact assessment and negotiation work\u00a0for\u00a0<\/span>Indigenous\u00a0organisations\u00a0and communities, while\u00a0<\/span>Prof Ashlea Troth<\/span><\/a>\u00a0discussed the importance of emotional regulation and emotional intelligence in the workplace. To celebrate Open Access Week,\u00a0<\/span>Prof Leanne Wiseman<\/span><\/a>\u00a0spoke with us about the Right to Repair movement and intellectual property law.\u00a0<\/span>Dr Alexis Kallio<\/span><\/a>, newly appointed Deputy Director (Research) of the Queensland Conservatorium,\u00a0shed some light on the politics of music education.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
