On 23 April each year, celebrations take place all over the world to recognise the scope of books\u2014a bridge between generations and across cultures.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:1,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">A symbolic date in world literature, 23 April is the date prominent authors <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/William_Shakespeare\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">William Shakespeare<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Miguel_de_Cervantes\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Miguel Cervantes<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Inca_Garcilaso_de_la_Vega\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Inca Garcilaso de la Vega<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\"> all died in 1616. The first World Book Day was celebrated on 23 April in 1995.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0 <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Each year UNESCO and the international organisations representing the three major sectors of the book industry\u2014publishers, booksellers and libraries\u2014nominate a city to act as World Book Capital to champion and lead the Day\u2019s celebration. The World Book Capital for 2022 is <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/en.unesco.org\/news\/guadalajara-named-world-book-capital-2022\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Guadalajara, Mexico<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:1,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">World Book and Copyright Day highlights the power of books and their ability to impart knowledge and values to readers of all ages.
