Libraries are a safe space, with a long history of providing a refuge for all types of individuals and groups seeking knowledge. In order to keep this space safe, patrons are encouraged to reflect and respect the library\u2019s values. We understand that life and your academic studies can be stressful, but it is everyone\u2019s responsibility to make the library a positive and safe space.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

So what do Griffith Library spaces provide?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Supportive staff\u00a0 \u2013 Library staff are on-hand to help with your learning and researching needs as well as directing you to Griffith support services such as <\/span>computing support<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>health and wellbeing<\/span><\/a> and <\/span>personal support.<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Physical safety \u2013 Behaviour <\/span>policies<\/span><\/a> are enforced by staff to ensure everyone is protected including for marginalised groups such as LGBTQIA+<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Diverse resources \u2013 A diverse collection provides objectivity in the pursuit of knowledge and allows individuals to authentically learn about themselves and the world around them.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Physical accessibility \u2013 <\/span>Accommodating accessibility to the space and inclusivity<\/span><\/a> in our resources is a core component of library work.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Welcoming and adaptable space \u2013 <\/span>24\/7 spaces<\/span><\/a>, social study spaces, quiet study spaces and <\/span>bookable rooms<\/span><\/a> are designed for everyone\u2019s unique needs<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

How can you support the library in creating a safe environment?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Supportive staff\u2013 Reach out to the Griffith\u2019s <\/span>counsellors and student support staff<\/span><\/a> if you are having difficulties. You can book a <\/span>private study room<\/span><\/a> if you need to have an online session. Get <\/span>library help<\/span><\/a> from our staff, chat with them on-line or <\/span>book a consultation<\/span><\/a> with a librarian if you are hav<\/span>ing<\/span>e<\/span> research difficulties.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Physical safety \u2013 Inform staff or <\/span>make a report<\/span><\/a> on dangerous spaces or situations<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Diverse resources \u2013 Understand the library has a variety of resources in order to share different viewpoints even if you personally disagree.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Physical accessibility \u2013 Use facilities appropriate for you, keep disabled toilets free for those who need them.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Welcoming and <\/span>adaptable<\/span> space \u2013 Work in the area appropriate to your studies. If you\u2019re with a group it\u2019s best to stay in the social study spaces or <\/span>book a room<\/span><\/a>. Be aware and mindful of your fellow patrons around you. Griffith Libraries are open to the general public but <\/span>24\/7 secure study spaces<\/span><\/a> are only available to current Griffith students.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
