{"id":17454,"date":"2024-07-11T10:00:05","date_gmt":"2024-07-11T00:00:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/testblogs.griffith.edu.au\/library\/?p=17454"},"modified":"2024-07-04T13:40:59","modified_gmt":"2024-07-04T03:40:59","slug":"sparking-knowledge-this-naidoc-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/testblogs.griffith.edu.au\/library\/2024\/07\/11\/sparking-knowledge-this-naidoc-week\/","title":{"rendered":"Sparking knowledge this NAIDOC Week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.naidoc.org.au\/\">NAIDOC Week<\/a> is a time for acknowledging and celebrating the world\u2019s longest and continuous cultures in the world.\u00a0 The theme of \u2018<strong>Keep the Fire Burning- Blak, Loud and Proud\u2019<\/strong> highlights fire as a symbol of the connection to the land, to each other and to the rich traditions that define Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.\u00a0 Education is at the core of this.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Peter Anderson, from the Walpiri and Murinpatha peoples of the Northern Territory, is the Director of Griffith\u2019s Indigenous Research Unit.\u00a0 Peter is passionate about education as a fundamental human right.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>[\u2026] I\u2019ve been a tireless advocate for improved and equal access to education for Indigenous peoples as well as other marginalised communities.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Library interviewed Peter last year and you can read about his research journey.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/testblogs.griffith.edu.au\/library\/2023\/09\/26\/championing-indigenous-education-meet-professor-peter-anderson\/\">Professor Peter Anderson<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">We are all connected by and within this nation.\u00a0 Our connection is key in our overall health and wellbeing, as individuals, communities and a country.\u00a0 Earlier this year the Library spoke to Professor James Charles, a very proud Kaurna man from the Adelaide Plains, South Australia and Director of the First Peoples Health Unit.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>I\u2019ve always tried to engage with Aboriginal elders in research projects to understand their experiences with services and use Aboriginal research methods, such as yarning[\u2026]<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Read more about James and his research.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/testblogs.griffith.edu.au\/library\/2024\/02\/23\/professor-james-charles-making-change-that-matters\/\">Professor James Charles<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Keep the fire burning this NAIDOC Week!
