Are you doing group work this trimester? Working in a group is a great way to get to know and learn from your fellow students. It also gives you the opportunity to prepare for future team environments and the workplace. Check out the tips below to help you get the most out of working in a group.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Choose a suitable communication method<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Once your group is formed, you\u2019ll need to work out the communication method that works best for everyone. Your group may choose to meet face-to-face or online, or communicate via email, social media or instant messaging. The Library\u2019s <\/span>bookable group study rooms<\/span><\/a> are a great place for face-to-face meetings and <\/span>Microsoft Teams<\/span><\/a> can be used for online meetings. Create a schedule of meetings with agendas and allocate a minute taker, so any decisions can be noted.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Use technology to collaborate<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As a Griffith student, you have access to <\/span>Microsoft 365<\/span><\/a>, which allows your group to collaborate on documents and keep files in shared OneDrive folders. If you are not familiar with these tools, take time to watch the <\/span>Microsoft 365, Teams and OneDrive video<\/span><\/a> to learn how to use the tools and understand how their functions can help the group work process. If you are using other technology, make sure all group members are familiar with it and able to access technical support if needed.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Understand the task and create a schedule<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As a group, make sure you <\/span>understand the assessment task<\/span><\/a> and break this down into smaller tasks. Create a schedule and complete the tasks allocated to you within the set timeframes.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Prevent and resolve conflicts\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Conflicts can arise when working in groups. When your group first meets, s<\/span>et ground rules such as requiring attendance at meetings, fair contributions and respectful behaviour. During meetings, practice good listening skills and ensure each member is participating in group discussions. If issues arise and can\u2019t be resolved through <\/span>conflict management<\/span><\/a>, contact your lecturer or tutor.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
